8 Day Itinerary: Ride off-road through Vietnam’s Amazing Frontier

Day 1: Ride Hanoi to That Khe in the Northeast Vietnam | 220 Km

Start the day by briefing for the ride and then get ready, we pass through a vibrant farming region with rice fields, fruit trees, and dramatic karst rock formations. Continuing along peaceful country roads, we encounter traditional Vietnamese communities and reach forested hills inhabited by the Tay hill tribe. Our adventure ends in That Khe, where French forces suffered crippling ambushes in their war against Uncle Ho Chi Minh, riding through quiet country roads surrounded by beautiful karst rock formations.

Day 2: Ride toward the border, Ban Gioc | 130 Km

Ban Gioc Waterfall and Nguom Ngao Cave, We pass significant battle sites amidst the stunning karst landscape and follow the Chinese border past Nung and Tay hill-tribe people tending their corn and rice fields. We’ll visit the impressive Ban Gioc Waterfall and the Nguom Ngao Cave. Tonight, we lodge at a resort overlooking the Chinese border.

Day 3: Ba Be Lake | 170 Km

We head southwest, leaving the karst landscape behind, and ride through steep hills where Dao hill tribe calling it home. Off-road included till we reach Cho Ra, a market town, and board a long boat with our bikes. After cruising through Puong Cave, we arrive at the scenic Ba Be Lake, surrounded by lush jungle. Time for river boat cruise through the Phuong Cave and into Ba Be Lake National Park.

Day 4: Dong Van frontier ride | 215 Km

After steep climbs through high-elevated mountains and ethnic villages, we reach Bao Lac and Chau Vai, a border settlement. From there, we begin our off-road through the rocky lands into the stunning Ha Giang plateau, a region with breathtaking karst rock formations and villages inhabited by Hmong tribes for generations, Lo Lo, Bo Yi, and Dao hill-tribe people. The vast and awe-inspiring scenery culminates at the jaw-dropping Ma Li Peng Pass.

Day 5: Ha Giang via Lung Cu | 200 Km

After breakfast in Dong Van’s charming hill tribe market, we make our slow descent off the Plateau, up and over mountain passes, through deep gorges and past picturesque rivers to take a de-tour to Lung Cu flag pole, right at the border with China and ride all the time surrounded by the mind-blowing limestone karst scenery that this region is so famous for. Arrive in Ha Giang town late in the afternoon, check in and time to relax.

Day 6: Full day off-road toward Thong Nguyen | 120 Km

We enjoy a leisure time at breakfast time with all riders before setting up to exit Ha Giang toward Tay Con Linh and then toward Hoang Su Phi. Today’s ride makes a splendid traverse and off-road tackle through the lush forests.
Arrive at a nicely set up resort in the middle of rice terraces and ethnic villages by the ate afternoon, time to relax, perhaps following a massage and a couple of beer.

Day 7: Vu Linh at Thac Ba Lake | 130 Km

The backroads of the region leading us toward Thac Ba Lake, we cross a number of villages with a few stops until we reach the area where we lodge for an overnight. Before arrival, we set to off-road through the hilly forests and wet jungles, an amazing surprises of trail riding that tests every rider skill and passion. Arrive and check in.

Day 8: Final ride to Hanoi | 180 Km

Check out following a leisure breakfast right in the middle of rice fields. We then take an off-road around the acacia forests around the Vu Linh before rolling toward Hanoi. After lunch, we descend into red river delta and again, take an hour of off-road through the Banana plain.
