Itinerary of the 13-Day Vietnam to Laos Motorcycle Adventure, from Hanoi

Day 1: Hanoi to Mu Waterfall | 180 KM

Start your motorbike tour from Hanoi, heading south through into rolling hills and verdant forests. Your destination, Mu Waterfall, offers crystal-clear waters and serene surroundings in an area known for unspoiled nature and vibrant rural life. Day 2: Pu Luong | 120 KM

Ride through winding roads and rustic villages to Pu Luong Nature Reserve, taking in terraced rice fields, limestone peaks, and serene valleys. This peaceful eco-tourism destination offers untouched beauty and an authentic glimpse into local Thai and Muong ethnic communities. Arrive, check in and relax.

Day 3: Ride toward the border – Xam Nua in Laos side | 200 KM

Enjoy a leisure breakfast before getting ready to ride through the green landscapes of Pu Luong before crossing the Vietnam-Laos border at Na Meo on mountain roads. Continue toward Xam Nua, a town renowned for its cool climate and mountainous terrain, a reflect into rural Lao life and a peaceful atmosphere after a day of riding.

Day 4: Motorbike tour to Phonsavan | 240 KM

Navigate rolling hills and forested roads past quaint Lao villages toward Phonsavan, home to the Plain of Jars. This scenic route offers a direct glimpse into rural life before leading you to one of Southeast Asia’s most mysterious archaeological sites, where massive megalithic stone jars sit scattered across ancient landscapes.

Day 5: Luang Prabang | 260 KM

Today we ride from Phonsavan to Luang Prabang, this scenic mountain route pass through dense forests and parallels tranquil rivers with panoramic highland views. Popular stops along the way include traditional local markets and elevated viewpoints before arriving at Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its preserved French colonial architecture, vibrant night markets, and historic temples.

Day 6: Luang Prabang relax and recovery | No Ride

Take the day as a relaxing day to get ready for the rest of the adventure. Spend the day tour the historic town and or spend it as you wish.

Day 7: Nong Khiaw | 140 KM

Following the winding Nam Ou River, the northern Laos route leads through amazing green valleys and traditional villages toward Nong Khiaw. Towering limestone cliffs and serene river views define this peaceful destination. Once check in to our hotel, we can take a tranquil sunset boat trip along the water or hike to an elevated viewpoint for panoramic perspectives of the dramatic karst landscape.

Day 8: Muang Khua | 210 KM

Traversing deeper into northern Laos, remote mountain roads and off-road meander through tranquil forests toward Muang Khua. This riverside destination offers an authentic stay surrounded by untouched wilderness, where riders experience the slow pace and timeless tranquility of rural Indochina.

Day 9: Dien Bien Phu, cross back into Vietnam | 150 KM

Day 11: Phu Yen | 200 KM

Today ride takes us though dramatic mountain routes toward Nghia Lo and Mu Cang chai toward the minority town of Phu Yen, passing through cascading terraced rice fields and interesting ingle track ride and off-road where you ride through amazing trails. Later arrive in Phu Yen and check in.

Day 12: Dinosaur Spine ride, ta Xua | 80 KM

The day start with a leisure breakfast and coffee before wind our way toward Ta Xua where we ride the mountain ridgeline known as the Dinosaur backbone, or spine by some riders. An amazing view all around the dramatic mountain valleys rewarding us once we on top of the ridgeline. In the afternoon, we descend and lodge in Ta Xua, a minority village with a couple of nice homestay and resort.

Day 13: Ride back to Hanoi | 160 KM

Navigating a final mix of mountain back road, off-road and highways brings the journey full circle back to Hanoi.
